What Equipment do we use and how do we unblock a drain?

There are many methods to deal with a blocked Drain. Every blockage must be inspected and dealt with correctly. If the wrong tools are used this could cause permanent damage to your sewer and possibly your neighbors. In some cases a heavy fine can also apply.

What we do

Waterjetting: This form of drain cleaning is fast gaining in popularity. All the operator has to do is feed the hose down the drain. Backward facing nozzles then propel the hose down the pipe under its own power. Although not suitable for cutting tree roots, it has the capacity to use hot water to free frozen drains or to introduce detergent to break up fat deposits.

Stubborn blockages: If we can't clear the blockage by rodding, we measure the distance to the blockage from the length of cleaning rod inserted in the drain. We then excavate and open the drain. After removing the blockage, we replace the pipe with an inspection pipe. Notify the local authority about the work so the repaired drain can be inspected.

Closed circuit TV: This is another means of inspection. It is particularly useful for inspecting the interior of a drain which has a history of blocking. Once the cause is identified the offending part of the drain is opened up and repaired.

Gear we use

Machine-operated method. When used in 100 mm drains a 20 mm spring is needed. A portable Powerfeed Model can be used for operating the spring.
